UK Chemistry Olympiad
The UK Chemistry Olympiad (UKChO) is a prestigious annual competition organized by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for students aged 16 to 19. It aims to challenge and inspire young chemists by testing their problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills beyond the standard classroom curriculum.

Competition Details
1. Competition Structure
Registration (Sep 17, 2025 – Jan 14, 2026): Schools register first; students register through their schools.
Round One Written Test (Jan 28, 2026): Conducted at schools with real-world chemistry problems.
Round Two (April 2026): Up to 30 top-scoring students attend a weekend-long training and assessment program. Lessons, demonstrations, and practical/theoretical assessments provided by academics.
UK Training Camp & International Olympiad (May – July 2026): Four students selected from round two undergo intensive training to compete in the International Chemistry Olympiad in July 2026, Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
2. International School Eligibility
The competition is free for schools in the British Isles.
Schools in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam can enter Round 1 through ASDAN China, which handles registration fees and all enquiries. The RSC does not manage questions for these schools.
British international schools outside these countries can participate in Round 1 if they teach in English and follow a British curriculum (iGCSE/A Level) or IB programme. There is a fee to enter; schools should email the RSC for details.
3. Exam Details
The exam is 2 hours. The exam must be taken at school under standard exam conditions, supervised by a responsible invigilator.
Students who normally receive extra time for exams may use it.
