One-on-one and small group (Max. 7 students/class)
Class Introduction
This workshop is tailored for aspiring young writers who plan to apply to competitive summer creative writing programs, including the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio, Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop, and Sewanee Young Writers’ Conference. Under the expert guidance of award-winning instructors, students will develop standout application materials, including a compelling Personal Statement and polished Writing Samples.
Outcome
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- Complete a refined Personal Statement that highlights their creative writing identity and goals.
- Significantly revise up to two writing samples, ensuring they meet the standards and expectations of top-tier writing programs.
- Understand the unique expectations of the Iowa, Kenyon, and Sewanee summer programs.
- Receive individualized written feedback to further improve their application materials.
Class Schedule
8 small-group classes (2 hours each) + 2 hours of offline one-on-one written feedback. Total 18 hours.

Feedback
Students and their parents will receive brief feedback after each class regarding the student’s general participation in class. Students will also receive feedback on graded assignments via email.
