Competition Details
1. Eligibility
Age and School: This competition is open to students aged 13 to 18 (born between 2006 and 2012) from around the world. Open to students from schools or educational programs.
Language: For 2026, registrations and submissions can be made in any language (AI tool available).
Team: Individuals or teams of up to five (5) students. Teams can be from different classes, grades, or institutions.
Educator: Strongly encouraged to have an assigned adult Educator (teacher, administrator, program coordinator, or parent for homeschooled students). Certification document required.
Returning Participants: Allowed if still eligible, but winning or runner-up projects from previous years cannot be resubmitted.
Project Scope: Solutions should promote environmental sustainability, including local to global initiatives, new or existing projects, and various formats (products, organizations, enterprises, campaigns).
2. Submission
Students will share their proposed solution to an important environmental challenge. Projects can be local, national, or global, new or existing, and take the form of organizations, enterprises, or campaigns.
3. Prizes
- Scholars: Outstanding Fresh Ideas from each region earn the Earth Prize Scholars distinction.
- Regional Winners: 7 Regional Winners are announced online and via social media; each receives $12,500 to implement their project.
- Ceremony: The Global Winner is announced, along with three Mentors of the Year, each awarded $2,500.
Timeline
1. Registration & Submission Phase (Sep 1, 2025 – Jan 31, 2026)
- Access to online mentoring and learning materials.
- Team Leads form teams and invite participants.
- Participants submit Problem Definition, Motivation Statement, and Fresh Ideas by the end of January.
2. The Earth Prize Scholars Announcement (Feb 16 – Mar 9, 2026)
- Feb 16: The Earth Prize Scholars announced for outstanding submissions.
- Scholars submit Final Idea and Pitch Video by March 9, 12 PM CET.
- Adjudicating Panel evaluates submissions and selects 7 Regional Winner teams + 7 alternates (March 17).
3. Regional Winners Phase (Mar 10 – Apr 14, 2026)
- Selected teams participate in 1:1 mentoring and live Q&A sessions with mentors and adjudicators.
4. Regional Winners Announcement (Apr 15 – 21, 2026)
- Regional Winners announced on the website and social media.
5. Public Voting Phase (Apr 22 – 28, 2026)
- Public voting opens on Earth Day (April 22).
6. Awards Ceremony (Apr 29, 2026)
- Global Winner and three Mentors of the Year announced.
