Class Introduction

The Latin Level 4 course is designed to solidify students’ command of Latin grammar, syntax, and morphology while focusing on the intricate aspects of advanced Latin prose. Students will read, analyze, and translate unadapted Latin texts, gaining deeper insights into classical literature and the historical, cultural, and rhetorical contexts of ancient Rome. The course will challenge students to interpret complex passages and refine their ability to express nuanced translations.

Students will enhance their analytical skills by critically examining major Latin authors’ stylistic and thematic elements, preparing them to read with precision and scholarly insight. Throughout the course, we will draw connections between Latin texts and their influence on the development of modern languages.

We will evaluate students’ proficiency and place them into the appropriate class to ensure they learn at a pace that matches their current skills.
