Welcome to our 10-week program, which consists of weekly 90-minute instruction and guidance designed to prepare your students for a successful and enriching experience studying in the United States! The Essential Communication Skills class is specifically tailored for incoming middle and high school students, focusing on crucial skills that will enable them to thrive both academically and socially in their new environment. Our primary goal is to equip your children with the tools necessary for effective communication, encompassing both peer and teacher interactions. We will explore the nuances of casual conversation and the expectations of formal, academic discourse, providing a clear understanding of how communication styles shift across different school and social settings. By the end of this program, your students will be better prepared to confidently engage in conversations, express their ideas clearly, and effectively navigate the social and academic landscape of their American school experience. This course offers an in-depth exploration of two beloved novels, “Jasper” and “The Martian,” while guiding students through three essential types of writing: narrative, informative/explanatory, and argumentative.
In the Middle School Literature class, students will have an in-depth reading of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “Jasper,” and “A Wrinkle in Time.” Through in-depth discussion and writing analysis, students will enhance English speaking and reading analysis skills.
Junior Boarding School History and Geology provides international students with an introduction to the US school curriculum, focusing on the subjects of History and Geology. Over the 10-class program, students will engage in interactive lessons, discussions, and hands-on activities to develop a deeper understanding of these academic disciplines
In Junior Boarding School Literary Interpretations, students will learn how family expectations and religious values influence one’s personal identity. Students will also focus on how historical, social, and cultural context affect a text’s narrative, emphasizing how literary devices help to control theme(s). Since reading and writing are inextricably linked, students will learn to actively read the text at both the literal and inferential levels.
The accent reduction class focuses on understanding and strengthening the unique sounds and structures that make up the “neutral” dialect. While there are many dialects throughout America, it is the neutral accent commonly practiced by public speakers and officials. Radio DJs, TV news anchors, and even most Hollywood movie actors use the neutral accent to convey their message to the largest group of Americans possible. By eliminating accents in communication, we can more easily connect to our audience and erase any misunderstandings or unconscious bias from a foreign dialect, whether domestic or international.
