Aralia offers a range of introductory courses for high school students to help them explore different subjects and gain valuable skills that can prepare them for college and beyond. These courses are designed to provide a solid foundation in various fields, including English Literature, World History, U.S. History, Biology, Latin, and Spanish.
The class is designed to help prepare international middle school students to grow in confidence and excel in oral presentations to their fellow students and administrative/entrance school staff. Additionally, students will be introduced to the major types of speech presentations they are likely to be assigned while completing a public speaking and/or introductory communication course during their middle and high school careers.
In Junior Boarding School Literary Interpretations, students will learn how family expectations and religious values influence one’s personal identity. Students will also focus on how historical, social, and cultural context affect a text’s narrative, emphasizing how literary devices help to control theme(s). Since reading and writing are inextricably linked, students will learn to actively read the text at both the literal and inferential levels.
Introduction to computer science with a focus on programming. Learn the basics of computer programming using Java as an example language but with the concepts will apply to all languages. Topics include program control, abstraction, making decisions and user input. We will focus on how to design a program, how to write code well and how to read and analyze existing code.
In this course, we will work to hone our skills as close readers and critical writers. Through in-depth discussion and analysis of short stories and poetry, we will learn how to advance complex arguments that reflect an awareness of important themes and ambiguities in a literary work.

The course will cover biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology. Students will apply basic principles to understanding human biology, including the structure and regulation of genes, the structure and synthesis of proteins, and multicellular systems.
Explore the rise and fall of empires, the clash, and encounter of cultures, plagues, religious fervor, and political intrigue and war. This course aims to discover the complex interactions between Native Americans, Europeans, and Africans in different regions of North America across more than 500 years of history.
Students will learn an overview of history from 1500 years ago to the present, world cultural, political, and economic changes. The curriculum covers key world history content in grades 9 and 10. Emphasis will be placed on class discussion, note-taking, extended reading, divergent thinking debate, and research writing.
The purpose of this course is to provide students with no or very limited experience with French language and Francophone cultures an essential foundation to their language learning. Students that successfully follow and complete the course will attain an A1.1 (CEFR) or Novice Mid (ACTFL) proficiency level of French.
