Scholar of Tomorrow is a nonprofit academic organization initiated and run by college and high school students from many regions around the world. Scholar of Tomorrow Essay Competition is dedicated to creating a community for young people to present and exchange academic discoveries and research experiences, helping young people foster creativity and innovation and develop critical thinking skills.

Competition Details

1. Contest Topic

Students are invited to choose one of two essay questions in each of the following subjects: Psychology and Economics: 

  • Psychology: What is gained and lost when students delegate cognitive labor to AI? Is this simply cognitive offloading, or something fundamentally different?
  • Economics: To what extent are modern economies shaped by networks rather than markets? In a world increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence, will human connections become more or less economically important?

2. Scoring Rubric

  • Accurately identify and describe the origin and current situation of the problem
  • Provide a coherent and consistent line of reasoning
  • Use at least one specific concept in Economics/Psychology to support your point
  • Accurately discuss one way to inform a solution to this problem

3. Judges

The Academic Committee of the competition is composed of professors and researchers from Harvard, Oxford, and East China Normal University to ensure academic authority.

4. Prizes

  • First Prize: 100 USD
  • Second Prize: 50 USD
  • Third Prize: 30 USD
  • Honorable Mention

Submission Requirements

1. Format Requirements

  • Written in English
  • Articles should be no more than 1500 words (cover page, abstract, and reference page do not count toward the word limit)
  • Title and author information should be included on the cover page
  • The abstract should be around 120- 250 words
  • AI usage (essays will be checked for the use of AI) and plagiarism is prohibited (essays will be submitted to Turnitin prior to award decisions)
  • The format of citations for Psychology question is APA and for Economics question is MLA
  • Free of grammatical errors
  • MS Word Format only
