AP Research
AP Research helps students develop their research, writing, analysis, and critical thinking skills, surrounding their topic of interest. Students will also be prepared for the 4000-5000 word research and the oral defense.
Writing
Aralia offers writing competition preparation courses for students to help develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in writing competitions such as Scholastic Writing Awards. These courses cover a wide range of topics including creative writing, essay writing, and research-based writing.
John Locke Essay Competition Prep
In the John Locke Essay Competition Prep course, students will learn the ins and outs of essay writing, in preparation for entering the competition. We offer prep classes in all categories. Students will choose one topic, compose an original thesis and argument, and write an essay for submission. Students will engage in a guided analysis of primary and secondary sources, develop critical thinking skills, and discover interesting insights. In addition to the group classes, students will receive guidance on their individual projects from the instructor through one-on-one sessions.
HIR Academic Writing Contest Prep
In the HIR Academic Writing Contest Preparation, students will explore college-level topics in international affairs to craft a compelling, well-researched essay.
AP Seminar
The AP Seminar course aids students in cultivating their research, writing, analysis, and critical thinking skills within the scope of their chosen topic. Additionally, students will receive preparation for the end-of-course exam, which comprises three short-answer questions and one essay question.
HIR Harvard International Review Academic Writing Contest
The HIR Harvard International Review Academic Writing Contest is founded by the Harvard International Review, a quarterly magazine covering insights on international affairs. The magazine has featured commentary by 43 Presidents and Prime Ministers, 4 Secretaries-General, 4 Nobel Economics Prize laureates, and 7 Nobel Peace Prize laureates.

Leonard L. Milberg’53/Leonard Milberg High School Poetry Prize
The Leonard Milberg High School Poetry Prize recognizes outstanding work by student writers in the 11th grade in the U.S. or abroad. Contest judges are poets on the Princeton University Creative Writing faculty, which includes Michael Dickman, Paul Muldoon, Rowan Ricardo Phillips, James Richardson, Tracy K. Smith, Susan Wheeler, Jenny Xie, and Monica Youn.
