Aralia offers writing competition preparation courses for students to help develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in writing competitions such as Scholastic Writing Awards. These courses cover a wide range of topics including creative writing, essay writing, and research-based writing.
Inspired by The New York Times Magazine’s Tip column, in the New York Times Informational Writing Contest. students are asked to write a concise how-to essay that explains a task in 400 words or fewer. They will also need to interview an expert on their chosen topic, making the piece both informative and trustworthy.
The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society since 1883, is the world’s oldest international writing competition for schools. It offers young Commonwealth citizens the opportunity to express their ideas on key global issues.
This class is offered in the fall every year. Students from 13 to 18 years old wanting to learn how to shape their written English into effective and publishable creative pieces will find this particular Writing Competition course very exciting. The class will be shown a range of tools to learn the nuances of controlled, purposeful writing, including: figurative language, effective structuring and specific forms that they will apply to their own pieces.
